One injured in five-car accident on Route 19
An 84-year-old Pittsburgh woman told Peters Township police she mistook her gas pedal for her brakes, which caused her to drive over a landscape barrier at a local funeral home and into traffic in the 3200 block of Route 19 in McMurray and resulted in a five-car accident that forced the closure of the road for about an hour the afternoon of Jan. 19.
According to reports, Cynthia Wagar was in the parking lot of Cremation & Funeral Care by Danielle Andy Belusko, 3287 Washington Road, at 11:28 a.m. Jan. 19 when she drove over a landscaping barrier and struck a car driven by Ronald Snyder, 64, of Canonsburg, who was southbound on Washington Road. The impact of that crash pushed Snyder’s car into a car driven by Michael Fay, 67, of McMurray, who was also driving southbound on Route 19, said Douglas Grimes, Peters deputy police chief.
Fay’s car then struck a car driven by Charles McCoy, 35, of West Mifflin, who was northbound on Route 19. The impact of that crash pushed McCoy’s car into a car driven by Jessica Minella, 30, of Pittsburgh, who was also northbound on Route 19.
Grimes said Route 19 was temporarily closed for about one hour Tuesday afternoon to clear up the accident.
Police said Wagar was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for a minor injury sustained when her air bag deployed. Snyder and Fay each denied medical treatment, while McCoy and Minella were not injured, Cars driven by Wagar, Snyder, Fay and McCoy had to be towed from the scene, according to reports.
