Expansion, renovation starts in Chartiers Valley
Expansion and renovation of Chartiers Valley middle and high schools is in progress, representing the culmination of a three-year plan to give a facelift and rejuvenation to the two buildings, both constructed in 1973.
“We are really excited about reaching this significant point in our project,” Brian White, Chartiers Valley School District superintendent, said in a statement at the May 31 groundbreaking ceremony. Highlights of the construction project include adding a gym and new heating, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical system at the middle school. Cost of the portion of the project for the middle school is $30 million.
Work at the high school includes the replacement of seating in the auditorium at a cost of $226,000, to add about 1,000 seats. Other plans at the high school include the addition of a new theater floor plus heating, air conditioning, plumbing and ventilation work. The high school portion of the project is $50 million, which includes a completely renovated arts wing, new STEM and fine arts facilities, a four-story academic tower, three-story atrium student commons and administration offices.
Work will be done in three phases. IKM Inc., a downtown Pittsburgh, architectural firm, and BLRB Architects, based in the state of Washington, are the project architects. P.J. Dick of Pittsburgh is the project contractor.
