Two 12-year-old Peters Township girls were taken by medical helicopter to Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital of UPMC after being struck by a vehicle the afternoon of June 12 at the intersection of Gatehead Drive and North Heidi Lane in Peters, township police said.

Deputy Chief Douglas Grimes said the girls are expected to recover from their injuries.

According to police reports, the girls were riding one bicycle on North Heidi Lane, and they went through a stop sign and into the path of a vehicle driven by Steven Levey, 57, of Peters. Grimes said Levey was not at fault.

The two girls had been cautioned by a neighbor earlier in the day to be careful while riding the bicycle, according to Grimes.
