South Fayette Township School District officials turned toward two of their own to address the departure of assistant superintendent Michael Loughead.

He leaves at the end of the month to take the top administrative position at Hampton Township School District in the North Hills.

David Deramo, who has been South Fayette Middle School principal since 2011, will become assistant superintendent on July 1. Replacing Deramo at the middle school is Kristin Deichler, who steps up from assistant principal.

“We are looking forward to Mr. Deramo transitioning into the assistant superintendent’s position,” South Fayette Superintendent Bille Rondinelli said. “He is not only a proven champion and advocate for children, but also remains dedicated to transforming and remaking teaching and learning.

“The district has been very fortunate to have the expertise of Dr. Michael Loughead for the past five years, and we wish him well as he assumes his role as superintendent of schools for the Hampton Township School District,” Rondinelli said.

Deramo, who previously was a principal and teacher in West Mifflin School District, earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a resident of Peters Township, but plans to relocate to South Fayette.

Deichler, who was named assistant principal at the middle school in 2015, has been with the district for 15 years, working as a science and mathematics teacher before joining the administration.

Acknowledged as Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Young Educator of the Year in 2008, Deichler has a bachelor’s degree from Duquesne University, and a master’s and K-12 administration certificate from California University of Pennsylvania. She is a resident of South Park.

“We believe that Ms. Deichler’s transition will be seamless, since she has such a rich history and experience as our assistant principal,” Rondinelli said. “I look forward to seeing her work with our students, parents and teachers in the future.”
