Both Bethel Park High School and nearby Independence Middle School returned to normal Friday following an unsubstantiated bomb threat made on Facebook by a student at the high school the previous day.

Vicki Flotta, spokesperson for the district, said during homeroom Friday morning, students were talked to about what happened and were given an opportunity to speak with a counselor about what took place if they wanted to.

An unidentified high school student posted a threat on Facebook that involved a bomb on Thursday, police said. Both schools were immediately lock down, which is a district procedure following such a threat, and the police were notified. The student has been detained and the district said appropriate actions have been taken.

Bethel Park Police Chief Timothy O’Connor said police did not find any weapons and the incident remains under investigation.
