South Fayette recycling program delayed
South Fayette will postpone its automated recycling program for another two weeks because of a delay in the production of new recycling bins, according to the township.
The 64-gallon bins are now expected to be delivered to residents by May 16, with the first collection of recyclables slated for May 26. Additional bins are available at the township at a cost of $50 each.
The bins, which have wheels and a lid, are designed to be picked up and unloaded. Recycling in South Fayette will take place every other Thursday. Items that will be accepted for recycling include plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars, steel, tin and aluminum cans, cardboard, newspapers, magazines and clean food containers. The township contracts directly with Waste Management for both garbage and recycling collection and residents are not billed for the services.
Weekly trash collection in the township is not affected by the recycling program.
Residents are asked to place bins at the curb the night before collection, or no later than 6 a.m. the day of pick-up. They are also asked to place the container at least three feet from other items, like garbage cans, vehicles, mailboxes, or trees.
The township said residents can keep their old recycling containers, or take them to a collection site that will be set up at the rear of the municipal building at 515 Miller’s Run Road from May 27-June 7.
The township said if a person moves from the township, the bin must remain with the house. Also, some residents of the Hunting Ridge neighborhood who live on Wheatland Circle, Ryeland Court, Big Meadow Court, Brook Ledge, Clearfork, Deerwatch and Firethorn roads, Ridge Point Circle, Mill Court, Laurel Ridge Circle, Garden Apartment Drive, Hunters Path 502-548, and Lark Tree Circle use existing recycling bins.
