Citizens Fire Academy planned

1 min read

For the third year, Mt. Lebanon, Castle Shannon and Dormont fire departments have announced plans for a joint Citizens Fire Academy, a nine-week public education program designed for residents and businesses in the three municipalities to learn more about their fire departments.

Taught by firefighters from each department, the academy will cover topics such as engine and ladder truck operations at structure fires, rescue methods, fire extinguishers, fire prevention, emergency management, first aid, CPR and fire department history. There will be hands-on activities, as well.

The Citizens Fire Academy will begin Sept. 14 and end with a graduation dinner and ceremony on Nov. 11. Classes will meet primarily on Wednesdays nights, from 7 to 10, with one Saturday session on Nov. 7.

Applications are available at Mt. Lebanon Fire Department Headquarters, 555 Washington Road, online at www.mtlfd.org or by calling 412-343-3402. Application deadline is Sept. 5.
