Upper St. Clair High School’s Wagner named state Emerging Leader

Upper St. Clair High School associate principal for program planning and innovation Timothy Wagner has been named an Emerging Leader by the Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
Wagner, 31, is one of 14 selected statewide to participate in a two-year program that provides development and networking opportunities, along with the opportunity to influence education policies in Harrisburg.
“Dr. Wagner has consistently been a positive contributing member of our team and I am both excited for and proud of him for his selection as an Emerging Leader,” said Lou Angelo, Upper St. Clair High School principal. “He will serve as an excellent representative of the district and our community.”
Emerging Leaders have typically been in the profession from five to 15 years and are interested in education policy and practice. They have also invested in professional growth opportunities aimed at improving student performance.
Wagner began his career in Upper St. Clair School District as an elementary teacher in 2007. During his tenure with the district, Wagner has taught middle-level English, social studies and has served as the gifted coordinator for students in seventh through 12th grades. He was named to his current position in July 2015.
Wagner, an Upper St. Clair High School graduate, said the state role will give him the chance to bring new and beneficial ideas to the district.
“Given the scarcity of public funding sources, we must begin to look at ourselves as not 500 school district silos in the Commonwealth, but instead as partners who share resources, ideas and human capital in order to best serve our children,” Wagner said. “Ultimately, we are in a service profession and as such, leaders need to build a network that encourages, supports and grows its members.”
Wagner is a 2007 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College, where he earned a degree in child development and education. He has both a master’s and doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.
