Peters Township continues winning ways on the links

Peters Township continued its dominance on the links by capturing the Jerry Roman Memorial Chairman’s Cup and picking up conference victories against South Fayette, 207-223, and Bethel Park, 206-250, respectively.

In tournament action Aug. 20 at Cedar Brook Golf Club, which will be the site of the WPIAL team championships in mid-October, the Indians won the Class AAA division, carding a team score of 392. South Fayette finished runner-up with a 423 team score.

Luke Lestini took home medalist honors. By firing a 33 on the back nine, the SF junior finished with a 73 for a two-stroke victory over Joseph Pisarcik, who led the Indians with a 75. Parker Johnson (76) and Dustin Bleiweis (78) followed in fourth and fifth place and Christian Schreiber (80) closed out the Top 10 for Peters Township.

Ellian Ascencio and Ryan Marshall also contributed to the Indians’ triumph.

In addition to Lestini, Caroline McConnell (83), Milena Iafrate (87), Alex Goldstrom (89) and Colby Geary (91) added to the Lions’ showing. James Cavrak also participated in the tournament for South Fayette.

Baldwin, Bethel Park and Hempfield also participated in the Class AAA division while Burrell, Mount Pleasant, Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy competed in the Class AA division, won by the Panthers with a 404 score and a low card of 75 by JF Aber.

The Peters Township girls won the Class AAA division with a 371 score. Sewickley Academy (428), Bethel Park (437) and Mount Pleasant (602) follow in the team standings.

Allison Poon led the way for the Lady Indians, firing an 84. Ella McRoberts, Delaney Kern, Kaitlyn Magyar and Morgan Byers followed.

Four other local ladies finished in the Top Seven including: Caroline McConnell from South Fayette (second with 83), Milena Iafrate from South Fayette (fourth, 87), Tori Slawinski (sixth, 90) and Katie Scheve of Peters Township (seventh, 93).

PT swept the first five spots and captured the junior varsity trophy with a 391 score, besting Bethel Park, Baldwin and Sewickley. Robert Gavlik led the way in the AAA/AA JV individual standings followed by Sean McFarlin, Joseph Nypaver, Kyle McClintock and Payne Saunders.

Overall the Top Five slots among Class AAA/AA JV boys went to Peters Township with Logan Shaw topping the list with a 74. Nick Luniewski (77), Will Burkhardt (78), Cade Martin (81) and Mason Takacs (81) followed.

In running its record to 4-0 in Section 7, the Indians dispatched Bethel Park at Valleybrook Country Club. Piscarcik had the low score of 39 followed by Johnson (41) and Schreiber (41), Takacs (42) and Marshall (43).

Jon Harmon had the low score of 42 for the Hawks. Parker Loera, Andrew Evans, Zach Sackett and Bobby Kennedy followed.

In PT’s win over the Lions, Johnson fired a 40 followed by Schreiber (41), Marshall (41), Ascencio (42) and Pisarcik (43).

Lestini led all golfers with a two-over-par 38. McConnell (40), Cavrak (43), Goldstrrom (50) and Iafrate (52) followed.
