Boy Scout Troop 2, Bridgeville, held an Eagle Court of honor on Nov. 25 at St. Barbara’s Church for Matthew Dorfner, its latest Scout to earn the coveted Eagle rank. Matthew received many letters of recognition from national, state and local leaders who could not be present. The three local individuals who were in attendance to recognize his accomplishments were: Bob Milliken, commander of Knights of Columbus Bridgeville Post 54; Glenn Schillo, chartered representative for the Bridgeville Rotary; Eugene Eckman, leading knight of Elks Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park, who presented the new Eagle Scout with two framed award certificates, one from the local Bethel Park Lodge and one from the National Lodge in Chicago. He also awarded Matthew with a personal silk U.S. flag and a gold lapel pin, which represents the 80+ year relationship between the BPOE and the Boy Scouts of America. To attain the rank of Eagle Scout, Matthew completed his Eagle project, which benefited the Holy Child Church of Bridgeville. He constructed an outdoor gathering space by leveling, graveling and tiling a large patio area, landscape work, and adding two benches and two picnic tables with benches. Pictured from left are: Michael Dorfner, Matthew’s father; Gene Eckman, Matthew Dorfner; Mary Dorfner, Matthew’s mother; Nina Dorfner, Matthew’s sister.
