(PIC – eagletroop510_solomon) Christopher Solomon of Boy Scout Troop 510 was recognized for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in a Court of Honor ceremony held Dec. 16, in the Home Economics Building in South Park. Chris’s Eagle Project benefited the South Park High School’s student drivers and those locals seeking to hone their parallel parking skills. He created a practice parking area on grounds of the high school. His efforts entailed researching the requirements and dimensions for the project, raising the necessary funding thru donations and solicitations, leading the voluntary work crew in clearing the corner on the back parking lot on the school campus, re-paving the necessary space, painting the line boundaries and newly installed curbs, and adding signage. Before Chris’s efforts, the closest practice parking area was located in Bridgeville.

Chris received letters of recognition from national, state and local dignitaries and leaders. Attending and speaking at the ceremony was Matthew Koran, Eagle Scout and godfather to Chris. His talk focused on the topic “The World Needs Eagle Scouts.” Also in attendance were Eugene Eckman, leading knight of BPOE Lodge 2213 in Bethel Park, who gave a short motivational speech and presented the new Eagle with two framed certificates of merit awards, one from the local lodge and one from the Elks national Lodge in Chicago, Ill. He also presented Chris with a personal size, silk American flag, and a small gold lapel pin, which represents the 80+ years of relations between the two organizations.
