USC girls qualify
Upper St. Clair finished runner-up to North Allegheny, 310-342, and advanced to the WPIAL team golf championships to be held Oct. 11 at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
Sara Steve led the way. The junior carded an 80 for the Lady Panthers.
Mary Graninger, also a junior, followed with an 85.
Freshmen Bridget Beal and Tori Slagle contributed 88 and 89 scores.
Junior Sarah Eccher also participated in the match.
Saulie named POW
Lauren Saulie of South Fayette was recognized as one of the Class AA Players of the Week by the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association. The junior right-side hitter has the Lions ranked No. 6 in the league. Knoch sits atop the Class AA rankings.
Lestini qualifies
Luke Lestini qualified for the PIAA Western Regional to be held Oct. 15 at Tom Run’s Golf Course in Blairsville. The South Fayette junior earned his spot by being one of the top 14 finishers in the WPIAL.
During the District 7 championships played at Oakmont, Lestini carded an 81 to place 10th overall. He was 10 strokes off the leader as Jimmy Meyers from Fox Chapel won the title.
Mt. Lebanon’s Hayden Mitchell finished 16th, just missing the slot for an alternate.
Other local golfers competing in the championships included: Peters Township’s Parker Johnson (23rd), Upper St. Clair’s Scott Jordan (26th) and Nathan Piatt (31st) and Lebo’s Myles Hamel (30th).
Fun walk
The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA (MGA) will hold its’ 10th annual Pooch Parade at 10 a.m. Oct. 21 at South Park. This one mile fun walk on a paved trail begins at the dog park. Sign-in starts at 9:00 a.m.
