Scott native is commanding officer of submarine

Cmdr. Jason Deichler of Scott Township, commanding officer of the nuclear-powered Los Angeles-class, fast-attack submarine USS Pittsburgh (SSN 720), speaks to former submariners with the U.S. Submarine Veterans (USSVI) Requin Base organization at the USS Requin (SS 481), moored at the Carnegie Science Center. Pittsburgh crew members are participating in various events around Pittsburgh to bring awareness to the U.S. Navy’s mission. The Navy’s fast-attack submarines are designed to seek and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships, deliver missiles and special operations forces ashore, conduct intelligence operations, and engage in mine warfare. Pittsburgh is the fourth Navy ship to be named for the city of Pittsburgh.
