USC’s Render announces retirement

1 min read

The winningest football coach in WPIAL history is retiring after nearly five decades of coaching high school football.

Coach Jim Render submitted his letter of resignation Jan. 3 and officially announced his retirement as head coach of the Upper St. Clair varsity football team. Render is the only WPIAL football coach to reach 400 victories – he compiled a 406-141-6 career record – and he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

A more in-depth look at his career will appear in next week’s edition of The Almanac, or go online to www.thealmanac.net.
