n Missy Timko Photography hosted a “grand reopening,” showing off the space she renovated inside the Mt. Lebanon Professional Building on Cedar Boulevard.

Specializing in portrait photography, she started in business almost 10 years ago in Portland, Ore., before moving with her family to Mt. Lebanon.

“When you’re doing portraits, it’s not like you’re having to do sort of journalistic-style photography, where you’re always on the move,” she said. “So I can be more creative. I can use lighting. I can pick the best time of day.”

The Geico Gecko apparently is much taller than he appears on television. Plus he’s much taller than Monica and Chris Conroy’s son, Caden.

Prior to launching her photography career, Timko taught the subject in high school, along with drawing, painting and other elements of art. She said she still enjoys teaching and conducts some private lessons.

Along with photography, her business also features albums, frames and other aspects of customizing products for her subjects.

n Monica and Christopher Conroy were joined by guests, including one attracting all kinds of attention, at the opening of their GEICO local insurance office in Upper St. Clair’s Norman Center.

The company’s GEICO Gecko mascot, as seen frequently on television, joined the proceedings, highlighted by a ribbon cutting, and had its photo taken with anyone who asked.

The office is one of three GEICO agencies listed for the Pittsburgh region and the only one in the South Hills.

Helping to cut the ribbon for the new GEICO office are, from left, Greg Incardona of the Peters Township Chamber of Commerce; Norman Center owner Art Schwotzer; Stacey Reibach, representing state Sen. Pam Iovino, D-Mt. Lebanon; Abdullah Al-Hadeethi, visiting from San Diego to represent GEICO corporate; Chris, Caden and Monica Conroy; Tanya Bashor of the South Hills Chamber of Commerce; Linda Webster of the Peters chamber; and Ryan Schwotzer.
