Despite the departure of several key components from last year’s WPIAL championship club, the Peters Township field hockey team continued its winning ways with a victory over Oakland Catholic, 5-0.

Veronica Schratz scored a hat trick while Mia Pugliano and Cassidy King supplied one goal each.

The Indians lost eight seniors to graduation from last year’s 13-3-2 WPIAL championship squad, including Megan Casciola, (Mount Union), Greta Schratz (St. Francis) and Maura Farinelli (Gettysburg College).

The Indians also are under new leadership as Melanie Coco has replaced Amy Casciola as head coach.

In other action, Upper St. Clair defeated Sewickley Academy, 4-1, at Boyce Middle School

Madeline Takos exploded for three goals. Kylee McCown added the other goal to complete the scoring.

Jordana Kennedy led the defensive strategy in net, limiting SA to one goal.
