South Fayette golfer wins WPGA event
Marissa Malosh won the West Penn Golf Association Girls Match Play Invitational held at Latrobe Country Club.
The South Fayette High School senior used birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to edge Cranberry’s Lihini Ranaweera. Ranaweera, who beat Malosh in last year’s match, had taken the lead with a birdie on No. 16.
“I was up by three, had one bad hole and suddenly I was down one with two to play,” Malosh said.
Malosh had led the whole round until that point. She refocused for a strong finish.
“I had never been dialed in that like before,” she said. “This is probably the biggest one I’ve ever won. It’s the best way I’ve ever finished.”
Malosh hopes to finish her scholastic career on a high note. She is the defending WPIAL Class AAA champion but tied for 14th in the PIAA Championships.
