Alex Strain of Upper St. Clair secured academic All-America honors from The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) for his play on the Washington and Jefferson College squad this season.

Strain is the first scholar All-American in W&J program history.

“I am really proud of Alex and am really excited to see his dedication in the classroom be recognized,” said W&J head coach Cody Golon. “It is really well-deserved and an amazing accomplishment for Alex and our program as well.”

Strain finished his career as one of the best offensive players in W&J men’s lacrosse history. He was a three-time All-PAC pick and a two-time first team selection.

Strain capped a stellar collegiate career with 57 goals and 73 points in 2022.

His 4.14 goals per game and 5.29 points per game led all conference players. The goals per game total ranks fifth in NCAA Division III.

The 6-3, 195-pound attack, who served as team captain, finished with nine hat tricks in 14 games.

Strain tallied a career-high nine goals against Thiel on April 23.

He finished collegiate career as all-time program leader with 140 goals and 2nd with 188 points. He was named to the USILA Division III Dynamic Team of the Week in 2022.

Strain compiled a 3.33 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in Finance. He was voted Academic All-District At-Large by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in mid-May.

He became the first W&J men’s lacrosse player to earn academic honors from CoSIDA.
