Natural History Museum receives grant from Kamins

2 min read

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History has received a $25 million gift from patrons Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin, it was announced last week.

It is the largest individual monetary gift to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History since Andrew Carnegie founded Carnegie Museums in 1895. In 2024, the Kamins gave $65 million to the Carnegie Science Center, and it will be renamed the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Science Center later this year.

A portion of the $25 million will be used between now and 2028 to renovate the museum’s “Dinosaurs In Their Time” exhibit, and a portion will be used to establish an endowment that will support the museum’s scientific mission.

In recognition of the gift, the gallery in which “Dinosaurs In Their Time” is displayed will be renamed the Daniel G. and Carole L. Kamin Hall of Dinosaurs.

“Twice in the past year. Dan and Carole Kamin have demonstrated their profound commitment to the work of our museums through transformational gifts totalling $90 million,” according to Dr. Steven Knapp, president and CEO of Carnegie Museums. “We are deeply grateful for their unparalleled endorsement of our museums’ power to inspire and inform, and we are honored to be part of their great legacy of generosity in the Pittsburgh region.”
