Bethel Park golfer advances to WPIAL finals

Boff leads list of locals to make the cut

Joey Boff of Bethel Park leads the list of local golfers headed into the final round of competition in the WPIAL Class 3A championships.

A junior, Boff tied for fifth place with four others, firing an even-par 72 during the first round of action played Sept. 22 at Willowbrook Country Club in Apollo.

Boff is one of the top 36 finishers that advanced to the championship round to be played Sept. 29 at Butler Country Club.

Fox Chapel’s Carson Kittsley and Barton Bitar lead the pack, heading into the finals with scores of 66 and 68 respectively. Latrobe’s Jack Sacriponte and West Allegheny’s Nico Ward followed with 70 scores.

South Fayette advanced three golfers with Brady Newman producing the highest finish in the first round. The senior carded a 74 to tie two others for the 11th position.

Sam Bishop and Jackson Stephens joined Newman, finishing tied for 16th and 28th respectively with first-round scores of 76 and 77.

Other area golfers advancing to the championship round included: Jack Sexton (75) from Chartiers Valley; Colin McKenzie (75) from Upper St. Clair; Mt. Lebanon’s Max Pirain (76) and Peters Township’s Camden Reyes (76).

In Class 2A, Jamin Brock was tied for 12th place heading into the championships to be played Sept. 30 at Valleybrook Country Club. The Bishop Canevin junior shot a 79 in the first round played Sept. 22 at the Hill Crest Country Club in Lower Burrell.
