Peters Township leads list of golf qualifiers

Peters Township advanced all six of its golfers to the semifinals of the WPIAL Class AAA boys individual championships.

The Indians took six of the top 10 spots during the Section 7 tournament held Sept. 20 at Lindenwood Golf Course.

Ben Miller tied Connor McKenzie for runner-up honors. Both carded 74 scores to finish one stroke off the pace set by Jaden Mizenko from South Fayette.

Peters Township’s Nick Haught shot a 75, while Austin Malley shot 77, Colton Lusk and Nick Wentzel followed with 78s and Kyle McClintock finished with a score of 79.

James Cavrak of South Fayette tied Haught for fourth place. USC’s P.J. Tanner supplied a 77 to tie Malley for sixth position.

Other top finishers in the Section 7 event included: Derek Armfield from Chartiers Valley and SF’s Timmy Eisnor who shot 79s and Trent D’Alessandro who finished with an 81, Upper St. Clair’s Neil Joon and Johnny McShane, who fired in 82s.

During the Section 6 tournament held at Butlers Golf Club, Josh Shellenberger led a Mt. Lebanon sweep, posting a low-score of 76, as his teammates Callan Wilcox and Zach Dyke followed with 77s.

Hollis Whalen of Lebo carded a 78 to tie Baldwin’s Dominic Trimbur for fourth.

Bethel Park’s Johnathan Haddox, who shot a 79, and Dom Nerone, who followed with an 80, rounded out the top qualifiers.

The Class AAA semifinals will be held Sept. 27 at Willowbrook Country Club with the championships match set for Oct. 5 at Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville.

In Class AA, Ryan Saginaw from Bishop Canevin shot a 79 and finished third in the Section 4 tournament at Fort Cherry Golf Club.

PT clinches

Peters Township clinched the Section 7 title and its 19th straight WPIAL team playoff appearance when the Indians dispatched Canon-McMillan, 196-205.

With the win, the Indians improved to 12-0 overall and 9-0 in the section.

Nick Wetzel earned medalist honors, firing a 2-under-par 34 at Lindenwood Golf Club. Austin Malley followed with a 39.

Colton Lusk and Kyle McClintock each shot 40, while Ben Miller finished with a 43 to contribute to the victory.
